Flower farm & roadside stand · Hopewell, New Jersey

Skinny Trees Farm

We grow cut flowers and figs on eleven acres, fuss over native plants, and leave bouquets at a stand by the road. It began as a side project. It is no longer entirely under control.

Every color we've found in our own flowers so far — 360 of them, counted one photograph at a time, across 33 kinds of flower. We may have gotten a little carried away.

I · The farm

Shagbark hickories mark the old boundaries of a dairy farm that was abandoned in the 1960s, next to the St. Michael's preserve.

We bought eleven acres and named it Skinny Trees Farm after overhearing visitors remark on how skinny the ash trees were. Since then we've been slowly trading invasive roses and a dying ash forest for native trees, shrubs, wildflowers, and herbs — and adding a fig orchard, a berry patch, a great many cutting flowers, and a stand to sell them from.
